On Page SEO Techniques – Needed Recipe to first page ranking in 2016

You must have started your own blog and wondered about what you should do next. SEO seems to be a very complicated term for new bloggers but inevitably, you need to pay attention to SEO when you need to increase your online presence. Well, here you are and we would be discussing the much needed on page seo techniques.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. On Page seo optimization is the SEO technique which is used to modify and develop your web pages such that they become Google friendly and thus rank high in the search engine. Once you grab a higher rank in the Search engine results page(SERPs), you could expect a lot more traffic.

On Page would involve everything that needs to be done on the website like modifying your web pages, increasing your site speed etc. If your website isn’t optimized, it would be difficult to achieve a rank only with Off Page SEO.

I am putting forth my insight on some of the best On Page SEO techniques which you could implement for your blogs:

ON Page SEO Techniques:

ON page SEO

1. Quality Content:

One of the primary factors to be loved by the Google search engine is publishing quality content. “Content is king” is a very well known proverb and is highly truthful. Shady or thin content wouldn’t last long even with the best of SEO technique implementations. Original content with zero plagiarism, interesting enough to read and well researched with stand apart for a long time.

The primary focus should also be laid on making it informative enough for someone to read and gain knowledge. Text with images, infographics, videos tend to perform better which I will discuss in the article as you read further.

Quality Content

If your website doesn’t have repeat visitors and visitors stay for a very less time before pressing the back button, it may be a sign of content of less quality, appeal or information.

2. URL Optimization:

To rank high in the search engine, you should optimize your post URL too. Here are some points to keep in mind:

  1. It should be evident of what information it contains.
  2. It should contain your target keyword.
  3. The permalink structure should be domain.com/post-name and not the default option domain.com/p-123.
  4. It is preferable to keep the same title and URL of the article.

3. Page Titles, Meta Descriptions:

The title of the page should always be catchy to drive more visitors to your website. It should also be unique and highly relevant to the content written. It is also advisable to include the target keyword for the post in the title. You could be very specific on the title and drill down to match exact search terms like

Hats-> Sports Hats -> Red sports hats -> Red cotton sports hats

This would be easier for search engines to pick up your articles when those terms are searched.

On page seo techniques

If you have noticed, there is an excerpt below every search results. That gives a brief idea to the person about the page being visited. You can be very clear in the meta description about your content. It acts as a summary to your content. From a SEO perspective, keep it below 150 characters and be sure to make it unique, convincing and include the target keyword in the first line of the description.

You should refrain from writing anything that would act a click bait to people. People would visit and won’t find the needed information. Ultimately, they would leave sooner which is not productive for the website. It is also wise to include some latent semantic indexing(LSI) keywords along with the main keyword in meta description.

4. Meta tags:

If you have referred my post on Must have plugins for your wordpress blog, you must have come across Yoast SEO. It is a very helpful plugin to help you in ON page optimization of posts and pages on your website. Meta tags are tags which you can add for your article and should be relevant to your post. You could insert relevant search tags in form of meta tags to increase your post visibility.

5. Keyword Optimization:

This is another important and basic factor for increasing the On page optimization of a site. The main keyword or the focus keyword along with other LSIs should be well spread inside the article. Importantly, they should be naturally written across the whole article rather than forcing them into sentences. The ideal keyword density suitable for an article is 2-3%. You should use your writing and vocabulary skills to refrain from using the same words over and over in the articles.

Keyword Optimization

Using the keyword in the first sentence of the article seems to work well as one of the ON page SEO techniques. It doesn’t have a very significant effect but definitely helps you to get better in the eyes of the search engines. If you include relevant keywords to your content, it gives a better insight to the search engines to identify your context.

6. Sub heading tags(H1, H2 etc) :

Apart from the title/main headings, sub headings play a major role in optimization too. Including subheadings divides your long articles into understandable sections and makes it interesting enough for the reader. The sub headings should be H1, H2, H3 tags respectively. The main heading can be H1 and subsequently others can be H2, H3 etc. You could try to include your main keyword or LSIs in the H1, H2 tags to make it even more optimized. The search engines could use this as a parameter to differentiate the contents from others.

7. Post Length:

Information is crucial and thus post length is important to make a post SEO friendly. Long informative content tend to rank easily in Google as per recent case studies. You could keep the minimum word count of an article as 1000-1200 words. Sometimes, you may not find sufficient information on a topic. In such cases, you could club different related topics to make it informative enough.

post length

The primary aim could be targeting the keywords with high amount of searches, researching them well and presenting to your readers. You could do a competitor analysis for the keyword to check what your competitors have missed which you could present.

 8. Interlinking with other relevant posts:

Search engines are simply bots which crawl our web pages. So, shouldn’t we put some efforts to make their life easier? 😉

Interlinking to other posts on your website is an important SEO practice which helps readers to browse through your website and find relevant and needed information. It ultimately reduces your bounce rate too. I would advise you to link to other relevant posts from the content from keywords or phrases that could act as your relevant anchor text.

The content also increases its relevancy and becomes more meaningful after linking. Your readers would tend to read and spend more time on your website. It is not necessary to link from your targeted anchor text always. You could use other relevant keywords or search terms for the purpose too.

9. Outbound linking:

Outbound links play a vital role as much as internal linking. You may not want to clutter your text with all your internal links. There are authority blogs in every niche which provide important and useful information. It is good to link to those websites from relevant anchor texts as in the case of internal linking.

You could try to establish at least 2 links per 500 words to make the content readable. The outgoing links make your topic more relevant to the search engine crawlers. Thus, Outbound linking is one of the best on page seo techniques which you need to follow.

10. Including Multimedia (Images, Videos):

Did you ever like reading a large bulk of text with no images absolutely? Well, I personally don’t. 🙂

To further reduce bounce rate and make the post more engaging, you should keep in mind to include images and videos in the article in between. Images tend to speak a lot more and if you could compile a video of what you want to express, people love that even more. Even, you could try your hand at infographics and include a nice pictograph which explains everything in detail.

Apart from that, all the included images in the post should have appropriate Alt tags which is essential. The main keyword or LSI can be specified as the tag to make it optimized. As you know, Google has image search and Alt tags help to rank your images. It acts as another indicator to the search engines about your website.

11. Site Speed:

Apart from other basic factors, site speed is an essential on page factor to rank high in the the Google Algorithm, as stated in its official webmaster blog.

Take a look at the speed of your website at Google Pagespeed Insights and you can find the errors which you should eliminate to achieve a better page speed. Pingdom is another good web tool for analysis and can suggest you to change your HTML, CSS and javascript errors which crawlers face. Check your performance grade and if you have a loading time of less than 2 secs, it’s better. People do not wait on a website longer if it takes too much time to load, same with crawlers.

Load time

To reduce the page speed, you should consider using cache plugins which can help you in minimizing the load time. Apart from that, your host server is also important and you can opt for a dedicated host or server rather than shared to increase your load time.

12. Use catchy titles:

Apart from optimization, it is ideal to think from a user perspective when posting an article. Using keywords like “Top 10, Best, {current year}, insights, reviews” makes your titles catchy and drives more visitors to your website. It also covers some long tail keywords as they are good for SEO.
